Our Family Readiness Group began in October 2007 when a group of spouses came together to begin the first FRG for NAVIOCOM Georgia. With the command's support, we began by electing officers and building a foundation of members.
The purpose of an FRG is to plan and conduct social, informational, cartaking and moral building activities that will increase family readiness and enable the Navy family to meet the challenges of the mission and military lifestyle. As Navy families, we are truely blessed to have such strong support teams when our sailors are home and away.
Our first big project was to plan and execute the first ever Welcome Home celebration for our returning sailors. This was a highly successful event and quickly demonstrated the need and desire for an FRG here at NAVIOCOM GA. Due to the unique nature of the missions our sailors deploy on here at NAVIOCOM GA, homecomings for our sailors and their families are untraditional at best and sailors were excited to be honored in such a special way for the first time.
